Shell Downstream

Shell Downstream is one of the world’s largest businesses in the production and 
distribution of petroleum and chemical products. In 2003, Shell embarked upon a radical change to its business model from a country centric approach to a global product line
basis. This required changes to organisational structures and accountabilities, processes
and ways of working and information and technology systems based on SAP.

IBM supported Shell extensively with this programme, called GSAP. David Dockray was a member of the Shell senior level steering committee until his retirement from IBM in 2007. At this point the GSAP programme had met the implementation timetables for each of the first five deployments of the new system and accompanying processes and reporting. Ultimately, GSAP would become one of the largest deployments of SAP in the world.
